🥘 About the Ingredients
This post contains affiliate links. Lana’s Cooking is reader-supported and earns a tiny commission at no extra cost to you when you shop from our links.
- Light Brown Sugar and White Granulated Sugar – I use a combination of brown and white sugar in this recipe. The white sugar gives the desired sweetness and the brown sugar adds a nice, subtle caramel flavor.
- All-Purpose Flour, Salt, Baking Powder – Staple ingredients for dough. You probably have everything you need on hand, but if you’re shopping for flour I always recommend White Lily.
- Ground Ginger – Ginger is one of the “warm” spices that we often think of for fall and winter recipes. It adds a lovely touch of spice to this recipe. I usually choose McCormick brand ginger because it’s available everywhere.
- Salted Butter – In the south, cooks typically use salted butter for everything even desserts.
- Honey – Adds just an extra little touch of sweetness.
- Vanilla Extract – Where would we be without it?! Use any brand you like. McCormick vanilla is always reliable.
- Whole Milk – I highly recommend using whole milk. You need the little extra amount of fat that it contributes.
- Canned Pineapple Tidbits – Drain them well but keep some of the juice to use in the dough mixture. Dole is a widely available, consistently excellent brand.

- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

- Add in the melted butter, pineapple juice, honey, vanilla extract, and milk. Stir until well combined.
- Pour the dough into the prepared pan
- Add the drained pineapple tidbits on top spreading them as evenly as possible. Slightly press the tidbits into the dough.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until the edges are set and golden brown in color.
👉 PRO TIP: To test for doneness, insert a wooden toothpick into the cobbler halfway between the edge and the center. It should come out clean if it’s done.

🍽 How to Serve
This cobbler is a delicious ending to many meals. Serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (or butter pecan!) or with a dollop of sweetened whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce. A lovely menu featuring this recipe as a dessert would be braised pork chops, potato salad, and honey wheat bread spread with homemade butter.
🔀 Recipe Tips and Variations
- You can use all one type of sugar if you like. However, I find that using half brown and half white sugar yields just the perfect balance of sweetness and deep caramel flavors in the dough.
- Using some juice in the dough allows the entire cobbler to be infused with pineapple flavor.
- Add 1/2 cup chopped toasted pecans to the batter for a different twist.
- Add a small jar of well-drained maraschino cherries along with the pineapple.
🍚 How to Store and Reheat
Place any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Rewarm individual servings in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Portions may also be reheated in an air fryer at 330 degrees for 3-4 minutes.
❓ Questions
Yes, you can use an equal amount of fresh pineapple chunks in place of the tidbits in the recipe. However, keep in mind that it won’t be quite as sweet as canned.
Absolutely! Simply exchange the all-purpose flour in the recipe for a one-to-one substitute gluten free flour.

Lana,
This cobbler is so tasty and the texture is wonderful.
Thank you so much for this recipe.
A question: I happen to be out of honey so I could not add it to the batter. The cobbler came out superb anyway, so I’m wondering what happens when the honey is added.
Does the cobbler stay fresh longer? Taste a little different?

Hi Anne – the honey just adds a tiny bit of sweetness. Leaving it out is no problem!
